Unable to access the PaloAlto VM image via HTTPS
Recently, I encountered an Issue of "Unable to access the PaloAlto VM image via HTTPS". Here's how I applied troubleshooting steps to resolve it:
Configuration Changes done before: Configured static management IP & default gateway and rebooted the PA VM, then faced the issue.
Observed: Unable to access the PaloAlto VM image via HTTPS. Unable to ping to the default Gateway from the PA and viceversa. Error- getting Destination Host Unreachable in both cases.
Analyzed:
+ Checked the Management IP address and netmask, both are same as bridged network (physical)
+ Checked the default route "show routing route" - no route configured
+ While pinging from the base machine to PA and vice versa getting error as "Destination is Unreachable".
Hypothesized:
+ As per the Error message, primarily issue is Network related, that the PA VM is unable to reach physical NIC IP.
Tested:
+ Tried with changing the management IP address within the same subnet (as physical NIC subnet range) still had the same issue.
+ In order to find out which virtual network (I had few more virtual networks configured) attached to the VM, configured the mgmt interfaces dhcp client from CLI using below commands.
>> configure
>> set deviceconfig system type dhcp-client accept-dhcp-domain no accept-dhcp-hostname no send-client-id yes send-hostname yes
+ after enabling the dhcp on the mgmt interface found out, another virtual Network automatically assigned to the VM.
Resolved:
+ I switched the settings to the physical NIC and changed mgmet IP and gateway statically, issue resolved.
+ If you're using custom bridge network in VMWare Workstation, change the "Bridged To" setting from Automatic to the Physical NIC card
+ If you're using default bridge network from the VMWare, don't forget to select Replicate Physical Network Connection.
Grasped: How to Troubleshoot if the PaloAlto is up in CLI and unable to access it via HTTPS and Ping eventhough required preconfiguration applied.
